Workshop:Chassidic Thought & Jazz
Jazz and Chassidic Thought may not seem to have much in common, but in truth, they are one in the same: a powerful yearning for deep spiritual connection. Exploring the roots of modern music, radical mystical ideas and ancient meditative practice, this workshop will seek to shift the way we experience music, harmonise disparate worlds and most importantly put a smile on your face.
Noam Sendor is a rabbi, educator and vocalist who combines a pure jazz tone with beatboxing and chazzanut (traditional cantorial singing) to create a unique sound. He will be joined on guitar and in thought by Adam Starr. A graduate of the Royal Academy in London, Adam has led his own jazz ensembles that have toured the world, in addition to scoring traditional compositions for film and the concert hall. Together, they serve as the core of the Alter Jazz Ensemble, a pioneering music project that fuses traditional Jewish prayer and song with jazz and soul music.
