Tinpan Orange are one of Australia’s most loved brother-sister outfits. With the ethereal and mesmerising Emily Lubitz at the helm, joined by her brother, guitarist Jesse Lubitz and violin virtuoso Alex Burkoy, Tinpan Orange’s heavily stylised dark-folk-country music combines the highest levels of song-craft with an aching, sweeping romanticism. Tinpan Orange released their sixth album Love Is A Dog on April 8 2016 to critical acclaim, receiving 4 and 5 star reviews and wowing audiences nationally and abroad. Inspired by love, Love is a Dog is an eleven song exercise in musical portraiture in which the spare, essential elements have been arranged to perfection. The deep, throbbing tremolo guitar, the shimmering strings and the fine threads of Emily Lubitz’s gossamer voice, are the defining components of this album that isn’t reliant on tricks of production but rather the raw, live performances that each band member brings. They toured the album in Europe on a 17 date jaunt supporting The Cat Empire in October & November 2016 and returned to Germany and France in February 2017, followed by a series of tour dates around Australia including Australia Day on the Rocks, Nannup Music Festival, PANAMA festival and Yackandandah Folk Festival.
