Deborah Conway has won ARIAs, has been anointed Rolling Stone Singer of The Year and in many capacities has been a significant and eloquent contributor to Australian music for over 30 years. She has released a dozen albums both with 80’s band Do Re Mi, solo, and with long time collaborator Willy Zygier.
Together Conway & Zygier have recorded eight albums and introduced groundbreaking house concerts that have been widely adopted across the industry as a marketing staple. They produced the national concert series “Broad” from 2005 to 2008 to fully explore the depth of talent of Australian female singer- songwriters. In 2009 & 2011 Conway took on the role of Artistic Director of the Queensland Music Festival and in 2013 Conway & Zygier released Stories of Ghosts, an unbeliever’s examination of Old Testament themes from a Jewish perspective, to 4 star reviews from every major Australian publication.
This year Conway & Zygier were invited to close the Canberra International Music Festival with songs from Stories of Ghosts accompanied by a 15-piece chamber group; the results were sufficiently impressive to want to recreate them in Melbourne for Shir Madness.
